Obstacles During the SAKERNAS Enumeration

Obstacles During the SAKERNAS Enumeration

August 28, 2024 | BPS Activities

The National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas) is a survey conducted periodically to collect data regarding employment conditions in Indonesia. Specifically, this survey obtains estimated data on the number of working people, the number of unemployed, and other employment indicators, as well as developments at the national, provincial and district levels.

Even though Sakernas has clear objectives and standardized procedures, there are several obstacles that may arise during the census. One of the biggest challenges for enumerators is respondent compliance. Starting from the respondent's unwillingness to be met, to refusing to provide actual information. Generally, this is due to a lack of awareness and understanding, as well as concerns about privacy.

However, BPS has various strategies to overcome obstacles when obtaining information from uncooperative respondents. Such as taking a good approach to respondents, education and effective communication. In this way, it is hoped that the level of respondent compliance in surveys and censuses can increase, so that the data collected is more accurate and useful for planning and decision making.
