Harvest Area and Rice Production in Kuantan Singingi Regency 2023

The availability of timely and accurate agricultural data is the foundation for implementing targeted agricultural policies. Since 2018, BPS-Statistics has collaborated with the Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT), supported by the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (Ministry of ATR/BPN), the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), and the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN), in efforts to improve the methodology for calculating rice harvest areas through the application of objective measurement using advancements in information and communication technology and the availability of high-resolution satellite imagery. This collaboration has been realized through an activity called “Integrated Agricultural Statistics Data Collection for Food Crops Using the Area Sampling Frame (KSA) Method,” commonly known as the KSA Survey. The implementation of the KSA Survey for rice commodities has been conducted nationally since 2018. Segmented observations are made during the last 7 (seven) days of each month. Based on the results of the KSA Survey, from 2018 to 2023, the harvested area of rice in Kuantan Singingi Regency fluctuated each year. In 2018, the harvested area was 6.8 thousand hectares, which decreased to 5.4 thousand hectares in 2019, increased to 8.09 thousand hectares in 2020, dropped again to 5.48 thousand hectares in 2021, decreased further to 4.82 thousand hectares in 2022, and rose again to 6.14 thousand hectares in 2023. Along with the harvested area, rice production (Milled Dry Unhusked Rice) in 2018 was 29.52 thousand tons, dropping to 19.32 thousand tons in 2019, then rising to 27.19 thousand tons in 2020, falling again to 20.95 thousand tons in 2021, increasing to 21.36 thousand tons in 2022, and rising again to 25.69 thousand tons in 2023. In addition to providing estimates of the harvested area, the KSA Survey also offers insights into other rice growth phases, such as the early vegetative phase, late vegetative phase, generative phase, crop failure (puso), as well as the area of fields and land not planted with rice.
